Governor Phil Bryant was elected in 2011. He won a crowded Republican primary and then defeated Democrat Johnny DuPree in the general election by a 62-38 margin. Bryant served as Lieutenant Governor from 2008-2012, after serving as State Auditor since 1996. Lieutenant Governor Tate Reeves was elected in 2011. After defeating State Sen. Billy Hewes in the Republican primary, Reeves faced only nominal third-party opposition in the general election.
